Namecheap: Setting up a Custom Domain

Old setup

  1. Go to the Domains tab in Voluum settings and click the Add custom domain button.
  2. Copy the name of your Dedicated Domain from the Domains tab in Voluum.
  3. Purchase your domain at https://www.namecheap.com/ and sign into your account.
  4. Go to Manage domains / Advanced DNS and click the Add new record button.
  5. Select CNAME as the record type.
  6. Use any type of name for your subdomain, such as "track" or something less obvious in the Host field.
  7. Paste the Voluum domain name in the Value text field.
  8. (Optional) Lower the TTL time for faster propagation of DNS changes.
  9. Save changes.
  10. The new CNAME record is added.

Voluum Note: Although NameCheap allows creating CNAME record for the root domain (for example your_domain.com), it's best to create a subdomain like in the instructions above to avoid any potential issues, as the DNS protocol does NOT officially support CNAME records pointing to root domains.

CloudFront setup

  1. Purchase your domain at https://www.namecheap.com/.
  2. In Voluum, go to the Domains tab in Voluum settings and click the Add custom domain button.
  3. Provide the custom domain name with any type of prefix for your subdomain, such as "track" or something less obvious and click Save and process.
  4. Copy both CNAME record names and values.
  5. In Namecheap, go to Manage domains / Advanced DNS and click the Add new record button.
  6. Add first CNAME record.
    1. Select CNAME as the record type.
    2. Provide the same prefix as you used in Voluum in the Host text field.
    3. Paste the domain record value that you have copied from Voluum in the Value text field.
    4. (Optional) Lower the TTL time for faster propagation of DNS changes.
    5. Click the Add record.
  7. Add second CNAME record.
    1. Select CNAME as the record type.
    2. Paste the prefix of the certificate record (without the domain name) that you have copied from Voluum in the Host text field.
    3. Paste the certificate record value that you have copied from Voluum in the Value text field.
    4. (Optional) Lower the TTL time for faster propagation of DNS changes.
    5. Click the Add record.
